I think it’s funny that we have people like The Rock and Kanye West running for president. Any thoughts? Any more ridiculous candidates for 2020?

This is why, even though I tend to support Democratic candidates for president, I still recognize the importance of the electoral college. If Kanye would win, which I think could be possible just because of his celebrity status combined with anti Trump sentiment, it would be imperative that the electoral college keep him out of the office.

When I said that Donald Trump winning the presidential race could lead to an entire march of populists with no credentials, winning purely on their entertainment appeal, back in 2015 - I did not know the effects of that election would be felt so soon. Now people like Opray Winfrey, Michelle Obama or Ivanka Trump are seen as realistic candidates, and even random rappers seem to be realizing that they have a chance.

Perhaps the institute of presidency should be done with at last. It is clear that the presidential position no longer serves the constitutional purposes intended by the Founding Fathers; has not served it since mid-19th century, at least. Make this a genuine republic finally, removing the presidential position from our political system.

Competent or not, one person should not have so much power in a democratic system.
